Finance Innovation for Climate Change Fund (FICCF) promoted the commercialization of climate resilient commodities in Kenya through a first-of-its kind pilot intervention to on-lend international climate finance to Kenyan smallholder farmers engaged in sorghum, cassava, dairy and indigenous chicken. Climate change studies show that the high production areas where FICCF focuses its efforts are increasingly shrinking as ASALs continue to expand due to temperature rise, necessitating agricultural transformation.
The DAI team involved the UKAID supported Strengthening Adaptation and Resilience to Climate Change in Kenya (StARCK+) Programme hosted their final StARCK+ learning conference in Nairobi on May 9 and 10. The programme which brings together 6 components implemented by 5 contractors supported Kenya’s efforts in addressing climate change through catalyzing private sector innovation and investment, strengthening climate change governance and supporting civil society advocacy. DAI has been leading the work on climate smart agriculture under the Finance Innovation for Climate Change Fund and the delivering technical assistance to the Government of Kenya while also providing coordination learning across the other components which include an investment in the AECF-REACT window, the Kenya Climate Innovation Centre, the County Adaptation Fund and the Act, Change, Transform civil society fund.
In July this year, I had the pleasure of visiting Solinc East Africa Limited and I must say I was intrigued by the number of women involved in the assembly of solar panels.
