Government of Kenya preparations for the Marrakech Climate Change Conference 2016, also known as COP 22 (the 22nd Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change [UNFCCC]) included the preparation of a success story booklet that presented a collection of actions undertaken to implement the National Climate Change Action Plan (NCCAP). In addition, briefing notes were prepared to highlight the successes of the government in addressing the climate change challenge, and to elaborate the work undertaken to develop Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs). The publications were developed with support through the StARCK+ Technical Assistance to the Government of Kenya.
The Government of Kenya’s hosted an official side event at COP 22. The Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources was the chief guest at the side event that focused on how development partners, including DFID and the StARCK+ Technical Assistance to the Government of Kenya, support the government’s climate change priorities. The DAI Technical Advisor spoke at the event, emphasizing how the StARCK+ programme works in a responsive manner to support the government’s priorities, which include the development of the Climate Change Act and policy, climate finance policy, National Adaptation Plan, and sectoral analysis of Kenya’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).
